Kayonza: Police constructs house for vulnerable family

Police in Kayonza District was joined by local residents and authorities on July 11, constructed a house of a vulnerable family in Karama Village of Kawangire Cell in Rukara Sector.

The exercise was part of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) human security activities.

The beneficiary, John Kayibanda, a 57 year-old, was living in a one-room house with his five children.

Kayibanda thanked RNP and the government for thinking about his family and giving them a "decent house and decent living."

“I was happy from the first day when Police and local leaders told of the plan to build a house for my family," a happy Kayibanda said.

"We know our government; when they tell you that they are going to do something for you...you know it will be done, and this is one of thw many testimonies; am not the first neither will i be the last, I can't thank you enough," he added.

In his remarks, shortly after the activity, the Executive Secretary of Rukara Sector, Grace Mukandori commended RNP for it's continued commitment in human security and community development activities.

"Our Police has been on the forefront in activities that are aimed at improving the welfare of communities, but as residents and Rwandans we need to translate this into safety and security, and ensuring that what can affect your welbeing is reported to Police or to us your leaders on the ground,” Mukandori said.

She further urged them to continue to actively take part in community and government development activities.

Inspector of Police (IP) Edward Hakizimana, the station commander of Rukara thanked the existing good partnership with locals especially in the area of crime prevention.

He, however, called for more partnership to prevent crimes including  drug abuse, domestic and gender based violence, child abuse and corruption, among others.
