Kayonza: Faith-based organisations, private sector in anti-crime drive

Security organs operating in Kayonza District recently met with representatives of Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) and members of the private sector in a security meeting that resulted in renewed commitment to forge stronger partnership in crime prevention.

Among the members of the private sector that attended the meeting included owners of hospitality facilities such as hotels and lodges, who were urged to ensure they get all the credentials of the guests to facilitate investigations, when need arises.

The Mayor of Kayonza, Jean Claude Murenzi, while referring to religious denominations, said: “You command influence in the society, that’s why you should take the lead in crime prevention.”

He called for stronger working relations with security organs through real time information sharing.

In his message, the District Police Commander (DPC), Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) John Nsanzimana appealed to hoteliers to not welcome in anyone without identifications.

“Minors should not be allowed in the bars, hotels or lodges. We appeal to you to abide by this condition otherwise the law will not be tolerant to anyone,” said CIP Nsanzimana.

For those hosting festive events, CIP Nsanzimana advised them to avoid noise pollution saying that; “You can celebrate and have all the fun without affecting others in their beliefs.”

The challenged hoteliers to not tolerate any of their colleagues who may violate laws concerning hotels in Rwanda and urged them to partner with police in ensuring public safety.

The Head of Kayonza traders, Steven Safari, urged his colleagues to ensure they always abide with the laws concerning their business operations and announced a new commitment of partnering with security organs in ensuring public safety.
