Police in Karongi is holding two people identified as Theogene Minani and Ezekias Nkundabanyanga for allegedly stealing construction materials for Karambo primary school in Rugabano sector, Gitega cell.
Police said the materials were reportedly stolen by the two workers from a construction site recently.
They were arrested on January 24, after information reached police that the materials were increasingly missing from the construction site.
“Eyewitnesses informed police that the duo was seen ferrying the materials which led us to apprehend them to know the whereabouts of the materials,” said
The following items were recovered in the search: three bags of cement, seven iron bars, twenty-seven pieces of timber, two windows and a door.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the western region police spokesperson thanked members of the public who freely shared information which led to the arrest and recovery of the items.
He said the duo will be charged with theft and possession of stolen materials.
The suspect will be charged under section two, article 166 which states that “any person convicted of theft is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than one (1) year and not more than two (2) years and a fine of not less than one million Rwandan francs (FRW 1,000,000) and not more than two million Rwandan francs (FRW 2,000,000), community service in a period of six (6) months or only one of these penalties.
