Residents of Kamonyi District have been urged to refrain and ignite fight against distilling, sell and use of narcotics and illicit substances by joining Police efforts to ensure the vice is prevented in the district.
The call made on August 31, follows several reports of domestic violence that police said resulted from consumption of illegal substances.
Police had earlier destroy over 4, 000 liters of illicit brew and other illegal substances that had been seized in different operations within the district.
According to the Kamonyi District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marcel Kalisa, the seized and destroy substances were major contributors to violence within homes.
“Such substance cause physical and mental damage to anyone who consumes them; these substances turn them violent” said CIP Kalisa.
He added that; “the effect of consuming such substance are not only limited to the consumers but his or her family and the nation at large. We are calling on the public to join efforts with all security organs to collectively combat the vice.”
In a bid to sensitize the public against drug abuse and domestic violence, police in Kamonyi is scheduled to meet with 80 families that have been marred with domestic violence and wrangles as part of the ongoing programme to reunite dispute ridden families.
Meanwhile, police officers across the country are conducting family reconciliation programmes where they identify families marred wrangles.
Last month police in Kamonyi reconciled 40 families that were wrecked by wrangles mostly resulting from consumption of drugs and illegal brew.
