Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Wednesday, August 27, urged over 800 motorcycle operators in Kamonyi District to be defined by road safety discipline to prevent accidents and loss of lives.
The gathering was part of the ongoing Gerayo Amahoro road safety campaign aimed at promoting responsible road use, reducing accidents, and improving public safety.
Dr. Nahayo Sylivere, the Mayor of Kamonyi District, acknowledged the significant role commercial motorcyclists play in Rwanda’s transportation sector and national development.

“We appreciate the contribution of motorcyclists in the country’s growth and mobility. We encourage you to embrace savings schemes such as Ejo Heza and to acquire medical insurance. These practices will support you in your daily lives and secure your future,” Dr. Nahayo said.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Vincent Habintwari, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of motorcycle operations, stressed the importance of discipline on the road, hygiene, and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
“It is not professional and life-threatening to ride under the influence of alcohol, using a phone, overtaking recklessly, or disregarding traffic signs. Also, always carry along your valid traffic documents and avoid transporting passengers and baggage on a single motorcycle,” CSP Habintwari told the motorcyclists.
He further urged them to remain vigilant partners in the Gerayo Amahoro campaign and national security.
Crime prevention
CSP Habintwari also reminded them that they are not only responsible for own lives but also for the safety of others.
Safety and security, he added, are part of their patriotic responsibility.
He urged them to report early signs of insecurity and suspicious activities to support national efforts in fighting and preventing crimes.
