Kamonyi Mayor challenges Sector leaders on security

The Mayor of Kamonyi DistrictJacques Rutsinga has challenged executive secretaries of Sectors in the district to look beyond their usual governance tasks and equally spearhead anti-crimes awareness and community policing activities in their respective areas of responsibility.

Rutsinga made the call recently as he chaired a security meeting that was also attended by heads of security organs including Police, army and district administrative organs (DASSO) personnel.

“The work of local governance entities and that of security institutions supplement each other, with the same goal of ensuring security and development of citizens. This is why we are here together today to dialogue on how to strengthen the existing cooperation towards the same goal,” Rutsinga said.

He embarked on the role of residents in ensuring their own security and urged the leaders to sensitize and involved them in refraining and reporting anything that can affect their well-being.

“Timely information sharing between residents, local leaders and security organs can’t be underestimated to facilitate easy response in crime prevention, arrest of wrongdoers and recovery of stolen items.”

The District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marcel Kalisa reminded them that although all crimes have drastically reduced, cases of drug abuse, domestic and gender based violence continue to persist in the district, which requires joint priority focus.

The meeting resolved to jointly stand up against such crimes and bring communities on board through community awareness programmes.
