The District Police Commander of Kamonyi, Chief Inspector. Marcel Kalisa has urged commercial motorcyclists operating in the district to professionally effect their daily work by observing road safety rules at all times.
The message was delivered on March 16, during a meeting held in Gacurabwenge Sector with over 250 commercial motorcyclists organized in two cooperatives – KAMOTRACO) and COTAMOKA.
While addressing motorists, CIP Kalisa told them to conduct their business professionally with discipline, respecting road safety rules and avoid riding under influence of alcohol.
He further reminded them not to carry more than one passenger on a motorcycle, avoid speeding and be agents of community policing.
“Some of your colleagues have been involved in accidents, claiming lives of innocent pessangers. Others have been spotted and arrested in illegal activities like transporting suspected thieves and stolen items, and aiding drug trafficking… all these tarnish the image of your profession,” CIP Kalisa said.
Jerome Nsabimana, the head of KAMOTRACO, said that the meeting came as a result of the continued efforts of trying to remind motorists of their responsibilities and avoid road accidents.
“We are thankful for the efforts of RNP that has continuously provided us with knowledge on road safety and crime prevention. We pledge to apply what we frequently learn from police,” Nsabimana said.
