Kamonyi: Community Policing Committees in security reinforcement

One hundred members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) of Kayenzi sector in Kamonyi district met on November 27 to evaluate their policing performance and to discuss ways of reinforcing safety and security in the area.

The event held in Mataba cell was attended by Emmanuel Mbonigaba, Kayenzi sector Executive Secretary and Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP), Athanase Niyonagira, District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO).

The CPCs shared their work experiences and views on how to deal with the policing challenges that still exist.

Mbonigaba commended the role played by the participants in ensuring security in their areas and urged them to invest their skills in preventing crimes, rather than waiting to deal with the consequences. They were also urged  to report in time anything that is beyond their capacity.

He reminded them to tighten night patrols as one of the most important  crime preventive measures.

“Discipline, integrity, collaboration with concerned organs and residents will lead to your success in ensuring safety in your communities,” AIP Niyonagira told the CPCs.

He appealed to them to fight the trade and consumption of illicit drugs like and brew which he blamed for being inducers of various criminal acts including assault, theft and rape.

He outlined early parenthood, unwanted pregnancies and school drop-outs among the other consequences associated with drugs.

He further appealed to committees to identify families that could be embroiled in domestic conflicts so that they are helped in time to solve disputes before they turn violent.
