A total of 180 people in Kacyiru sector, Gasabo District, who include members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and community night patrols completed one day training in crime prevention on Friday as the sector moves to professionalise its community night patrols.
The course covered various areas which include professional night patrols, crime prevention and firefighting.
Vedaste Nsabimana, the sector executive secretary said there is need to professionalise their way of policing to further prevent crimes.
He said at least about five people are arrested in connection with various crimes such as drug abuse and theft.
Kacyiru is one of the sectors in Gasabo with vigorous community measures against crimes through training.
Chief Inspector of Police Antoinette Umuraza, Director of Community Policing appealed to participants to harmonise their operations to prevent crimes other than dealing with the consequences.
“Security comes forward of everything and ensuring it in not only the responsibility of Rwanda National Police and other security organs but also all Rwandan,” she noted.
