Police together with the public on September 3, conducted an exercise to destroy drugs and Kaberuka in Gacurabwenge sector, Gasabo district which were seized in the area in the last three months.
The destroyed drugs include 20 kilogrammes of marijuana, 38 litres of kanyanga and 2 tones of kaberuka with the value of RW20, 000,000
Uwera Alice, the district Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs called upon residents to refrain from drug dealings and the cutting of Kaberuka trees.
“Cutting of trees destroys our environmental that results into disaster and therefore has a huge impact on the nation’s economy” Uwera said
She observed that drug abuse has been identified as one of the causes of other crimes like domestic violence, assault and theft.
She explained to students that drug abuse also affects one’s thinking and productivity thus affecting their individual development.
The District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vita Hamza said the destroyed drugs were seized in targeted operations in various parts of Kamonyi district, in the past three month.
“Fighting trade and consumption of such illicit drugs remains among our top priorities. We will not lessen until all those involved are apprehended,” SP Hamza said.
He thanked the general public for the continuous collaboration but however emphasized that public’s role in the campaign against the use of drugs and destroying our environment is very paramount. He advised them to report those still involved in it.
He warned the youth, the majority age group involved in this illegal act of trafficking, selling or consumption of illicit drug.
