Inzozi Academy students visit Police General Headquarters

Rwanda National Police (RNP) hosted 42 Nursery Two and Three students and eight teachers from Inzozi Academy in Kanombe, Kicukiro District, on Friday, October 30, for an educational visit to Police General Headquarters (PGHQ) in Kacyiru.

The educational visit aimed to bridge classroom learning with practical experiences and introduce the children to police operations and career opportunities. The students visited the Fire and Rescue Brigade, Canine Brigade, and Traffic and Road Safety Department, where officers explained the roles of each unit and demonstrated some of their activities.

They learned about fire prevention and emergency response, road safety, and how police dogs are used to detect narcotics and explosives that could threaten public security.

The spokesperson of the Traffic and Road Safety Department, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Emmanuel Kayigi, said such visits help students acquire practical safety knowledge and understand the role of the Police.

“Equipping students with knowledge of road signs and traffic regulations, fire prevention and other Police operations helps them grow up understanding how to protect themselves. They can also share this knowledge with their peers, families and neighbours,” SSP Kayigi said.

He thanked the school management for choosing to visit RNP, saying such initiatives help children understand the responsibilities of the Police and how they are carried out.

Jemima Uwayo Munezero, one of the accompanying teachers, said the visit complemented classroom lessons by allowing students to experience firsthand what they had learned.

“Taking children on educational visits allows them to see firsthand what they learn in class. It helps them understand the world beyond school through practical experiences. Visiting a place like the Police General Headquarters also creates lasting memories and inspires them to work towards achieving their dreams,” she said.
