A three-day training of nineteen legal officers from local insurance companies came to climax on Wednesday with the insurers pledging to be agents of road safety and to prevent natural disasters.
Speaking at the end of the course held at the Ethics Centre in Kacyiru, Theobald Ndayisaba from Phoenix insurance company, who represented others, said, they have only been putting focus on compensating their affected clients, “but we have rarely been advising them on how to avoid such disasters.”

The insurers covered various disciplines including road accident prevention, insurance laws, disaster management, community policing and customer care.
“What we covered is in line with our day-to-day activities. The skills we benefited will also benefit those who didn’t have this chance for the good of Rwandans and our clients in particular,” Ndayisaba stated.
They thanked Rwanda National Police for organizing this “important” course, but requested that such training be held periodically.
The insurers also requested that in case of any disaster such as fire outbreak, vehicle accident, police informs them so that they jointly understand the cause of the incident to easily compensate “right victims.”
The Deputy Inspector of Police in charge of administration and personnel, Stanley Nsabimana said insurance companies are also major partners with Rwanda National Police.
“It is equally important for you to understand how to avoid making losses in your business. This is just the beginning and other courses will follow,” DIGP said.
Over 1200 people, including transporters, have so far attained training from the centre.
