The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana has called upon the Rwandan youth to be agents of chance and stir the country's development.
The Police Chief made the call on August 31 while speaking to about 300 members of members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers Organisation currently undergoing a workshop on crime prevention at the National Police College in Musanze district.
The organization which has about 7, 000 members countrywide supports vulnerable communities by giving them medical insurance, livestock and carryout crime prevention awareness programmes in schools and communities against drug abuse, corruption and gender and domestic violence, among others.
“We need to have a collective responsibility of crime prevention and the best way to go is to use community policing approach spearheaded by you, the young generation," IGP Gasana noted.
The IGP also quoted President Paul Kagame noting that “achieving maximum security for all Rwandans requires a serious level of commitment, hard work, good work, ethics and positive ideas that can be built upon.”
In his presentation, IGP Gasana took the youth through key government issues such as Rwandan values, culture, self reliance, patriotism and the role of public and the youth in particular in crime prevention.
He pointed out new emerging security threats such as cybercrimes, human trafficking and money laundering as crimes that need more organized techniques to combat them.
