The Inspector General of Police (IGP) CG Felix Namuhoranye, on Tuesday, August 4, received the Director of Public Security of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Major General Obeidallah Abedrabbuh Maaitah, and his delegation at Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The meeting was held as part of Maj Gen Maaitah's three-day official visit to Rwanda and focused on strengthening cooperation in policing and public security through experience sharing and joint efforts to address emerging security challenges.
Welcoming the delegation, CG Namuhoranye said the visit reflects the growing partnership between the RNP and the Jordan Public Security Directorate, as well as the strong bilateral relations between Rwanda and Jordan.
"Today's meeting builds on an important milestone in our relationship. Two years ago, we established a framework for cooperation in policing and security, laying a solid foundation for closer collaboration between our two institutions," CG Namuhoranye said.
He said the visit provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and identify practical mechanisms for implementing shared commitments.
CG Namuhoranye also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing increasingly complex security threats, including organised crime, terrorism, transnational crime and cybercrime.
"I have full confidence that collective efforts will make substantial contributions to the development of strategies that advance sustainable safety and security. In Rwanda, we believe that bilateral and multilateral cooperation is an essential pillar in achieving sustainable peace and security for the wider global community," he said.
Maj Gen Maaitah expressed appreciation for the opportunity to visit Rwanda and commended the RNP's role in maintaining public safety and security. He called for a stronger partnership through a more comprehensive framework and practical programmes for modern policing.
"I look at this visit as a gradual extension and a new step towards strengthening the actual partnership between Jordan and Rwanda. I would like us to have a more comprehensive cooperation agreement, with clearer programmes that require the assistance of all of us," Maj Gen Maaitah said.
He highlighted potential areas of collaboration, including technology and modern public security services, community policing and capacity building.
"We are ready and willing to extend these experiences, both technically and through training, as well as through the sharing of knowledge. We also seek to build and benefit from the great experience that you have gained here in Rwanda," he said.
The cooperation between the RNP and the Jordan Public Security Directorate is anchored in a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024, providing a framework for strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.
