IGP Munyuza in Malawi for the 7th KICD Annual General Meeting

The Inspector General (IGP) Dan Munyuza is in Malawi where he is attending the 7th Kigali International Conference Declaration‏ (KICD) Annual General Meeting, which started on March 25, at the Bingu wa Muthalika International Convention Centre (BICC), in the capital Lilongwe.

The conference is being held under the theme: “Combating child exploitation and gender-based violence: the role of security organs and community.”

The meeting brought together 33 member states, regional police cooperation organizations; SARPCCO, EAPCCO, WAPCCO and CAPCCO, Scotland Police as well as other regional and international bodies and organizations.

The 7th KICD AGM focused mainly on highlighting and reaffirming the role and responsibilities of security agencies, such Police, military and correctional services in responding to the pressing issues of violence against women and girls on the African continent.

African Security Organs have made firm commitments and considerable progress to support the move to end violence against women and girls. In response to the 2008 “Call for Action” by the UN Secretary General in the Global campaign – UNiTE campaign to end Violence Against Women and Girls” (VAWG) – the Africa UNiTE campaign was later in January 2010, launched in Ethiopia.

Rwanda’s security Organs in partnership with the One-UN Rwanda launched the campaign in Kigali in October 2010 in high level international conference under the theme: “The Role of African Security Organs in Ending Violence Against Women and Girls”.

The conference was concluded with a proclamation and signing of the Kigali International Conference Declaration (KICD). Signatories to the continental body have since grown from 14 in 2010 to 43 currently. KICD secretariat is also based in Kigali.
