IGP Munyuza Challenges Police officers on performance

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza has called upon police officers to improve their performance and exhibit a high sense of professionalism.

The Police chief also warned officers not to indulge in manners that compromise the image of Rwanda National Police (RNP) but to maintain law and security for persons and their property efficiently to enable the country to move forward.

IGP Munyuza made the remarks on January 22, on a visit to District Police Unit (DPU) of Burera and Gicumbi in the Northern Province.

The visit is to enable the IGP to interact with a cross-section of Police Officers and remind them of their roles in the year ahead.

He thanked them for the previous year’s performance as also acknowledged by President H.E Paul Kagame in his end of year message to all security forces.

The Police chief called for extra-efforts because of other existing and emerging security challenges.

He asked officers to remain disciplined and professional for the force to be successful in changing trends in the discharge of their duties.

He again asked the officers to put much emphasis on fighting drug and other substances abuse which continue to ruin the health of the population which have their way into the country through illegal border points of the Northern Province.

The Police Chief asked the officer to be more accountable and responsive to be able to address the security concerns and needs of the public.

“We want by the end of this year to receive reports that show decreased smuggling and drug trafficking from this region .., it requires that you remain more agile and rapidly respond to any issue that will arise and require our attention,” said IGP Munyuza.

The IGP spoke of efforts being made by the Government to improve the welfare of the Police personnel through the provision of skills and equipment needed to execute their responsibilities.
