IGP Gasana urges youth to shun crime

Rwandan youth must shun a life of crime and concentrate on improving their lives and country through education, entrepreneurship in a patriotic manner.

The message was delivered on February 10 by the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana in lecture to members of the National Youth Council representing Cells and Sectors in Kigali City, who are attending a civic education at Tumba College of Technology in Rulindo District.

“Young people are the future of Rwanda; therefore, you must resist and ask all the other youth to resist a life of crime, including using drugs, engaging in violence, rape and defilement, corruption and the like,” IGP Gasana said.

“Engaging in such worthless activities makes you waste time which you would have used to enrich your lives through education and entrepreneurship and other activities that are beneficial to you, your families and your nation,” he added.

He also reminded the youth to be ambassadors in the success of the home-grown initiatives that uplift Rwandan values, culture, self reliance, patriotism above all, development.

He also urged them to spearhead the fight against illegal activities through community policing.

The proactive community policing approach has been praised for improving safety and security in communities where locals device initiatives to fight crimes in their localities through community night patrols and timely information sharing with Police.
