The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana has appealed to officers in their respective departments and units to put much emphasis in implementing policies that lead to crime prevention.
While speaking to Regional and District intelligence and judicial Police officers at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru on Wednesday, IGP Gasana urged them to strengthen their collaboration with the community, conduct thorough crime investigation and proper filing of records.
“Prevention is better than cure. We have to shift from dealing with the consequences to prevention,” he said.
He challenged them to be result-oriented and move with the fast-changing policing architecture.
The meeting which was also attended by commissioners and Regional Police Commanders (RPCs) aimed at reviewing the implementation of various policing strategies which include crime prevention, community policing, E-policing, intelligence-led policing, media and international cooperation.
He also outlined bad governance, negative ideologies and corruption as some of other factors that can cause insecurity.
The IGP quoted His Excellency President Paul Kagame saying that the “goal is for every Rwandan to live in safety and have equal opportunity and social economic well-being.”
