IGP Gasana, Minister Musoni tours Northern Province

The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana and the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni started a three-day tour in the Northern Province on Monday to further mobilize area residents and local leaders to strengthen security and good governance.

On Tuesday, they met local leaders, residents and faith-based organizations and development partners in Burera district and residents of Gashaki and Remera sectors in Musanze district and urged them to play a vital role in the country’s development and peace building activities.

Minister Musoni assured residents that the country is committed to support their development activities in areas of agriculture, education, security and health among others.

While speaking in Burera, the IGP challenged local leaders to stay focused to their mission including security and urged residents to maintain their dignity and be catalysts of own security in their communities.

"We have come from far to reach where we are today but we still have a long way to go,” the IGP said.

He emphasizes President Paul Kagame’s message during the 20th Genocide commemoration to “Stay together, be accountable and think big” adding that “there is no development without security.”

While speaking to residents of Remera and Gashaki in Musanze, later in the day, the IGP emphasized that no one can derail Rwanda’s development path and urged them to share information with security organs of anything might threaten their safety.

He said the Rwanda National Police is there for them and appealed to them to partner in crime prevention and collaborate with security organs in their communities to fight crimes.

The Police Chief also urged them to give no room for rumors, criminal acts and anything that might derail Rwanda’s development.

He pledged to support five vulnerable families in Musanze to get them out of poverty.

The tour winds up on Wednesday with a visit to Gakenke district.
