The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, yesterday met ‘Officer Cadets’ attending the cadet intake seven at the Police Training School (PTS) in Gishari, Rwamagana District and appreciated the effort during the course which led to the successful completion of the course. He reminded them RNP Mission, core values and what is expected of them, the knowledge acquired here gives you enough tools to confront the emerging crimes upfront IGP said. You must always uphold Rwandan spirit and values added and challenged them to always have a sense of “self-worth” and spur the country’s transformation, especially in line with security and stability.
IGP Gasana, who disclosed to the students that they will graduate soon noted that they will have entered; "officer-ship and your obligation includes having knowledge on national security and national interest”
466 officer cadets took part in this seventh intake, the second of its kind to be conducted at PTS. Previous cadet courses were conducted at the National Police College, which has since been turned into a regional centre of excellence for professional policing courses.
“The D-day is the day when you will get the final guidance on how to achieve your mission; it’s the day when you will take your oath,” IGP Gasana said, adding that “going against the oath has its costs, which is high with consequences on the individual officer concerned.
“Rwanda has moved from bad times to reach where it is today, and a lot is still ahead to be accomplished. You must be part of that very good transformation and be identified with it,” he noted.
He went on to note that what has been achieved in the shortest time was possible because of the good governance under the leadership of His excellence President Paul Kagame.
“You have identified yourselves as ‘messengers’,the name of your intake, so we need to see the feedback…we need results. Work hard in silence and let results make noise. Rwanda must enjoy stability, security and environment free of crime because of you,” he said.
RNP, he said has invested much in training and face-lifting Police schools including NPC in Musanze District and the Counter-Terror Training Centre in Mayange, Bugesera District, to build capacity of police officers, including those from other forces in the region and on the continent to march with the ever changing policing environment.
The IGP also informed the cadet about the National Police College which currently offers three bachelor programs offered in partnership with the University of Rwanda (UR), which include bachelor’s degree in Professional Police Studies and Law and Information Communication Technology. It also conducts a ‘Senior Command and Staff course’ which is attended by officers from the whole continent.
The PTS, on the other hand houses Cadet and Basic Police Course wings, Peace Support Training Centre, Gishari Integrated Polytechnic and conducts other specialized courses in areas of criminal investigation, gender based violence and road traffic, among others.
