Huye: Transporters urged to adhere to traffic safety rules

The District Police Commander for Huye, Supt. Justin G. Rukara has asked commercial motorcyclists and bicyclists to respect traffic rules and regulations in order to minimize road accidents, ensure their safety and that of all other road users.

He said that some motorcyclists and cyclists ride recklessly causing fatal accidents while others lose their lives. Motorcyclists and cyclists are the majority either involved or cause fatalities or roads.

While meeting the motorcyclists and cyclists organized under their cooperatives; COTAMOHU and CIM, respectively, on Wednesday, the DPC said: “You have been blamed for causing road accidents due reckless driving; over-speeding and overtaking without precaution or in dangerous places. You should think of your lives first and stop those deadly behaviours.”

“Lives of passengers and other people using the road should be as well protected and valued by avoiding over speeding, risky maneuvers and overtaking in corners,” Supt. Rukara said.

He further reminded them that it’s compulsory for a driver or motorcyclist to move with all the required traffic related documents and should be presented at any time when required by concerned people.

He also asked them to take internal measures against errant members including those that abet crimes like trafficking and using drugs.

Athanase Hakizimana, the chairperson of the association warned errant members that they risk losing their membership and will be handed over to police.
