Police in Huye District are holding one Theogene Ndamukunda for allegedly stealing a cow.
The was stolen from the kraal of one Beatha Mukarutesi in Matyazo Cell, Ngoma Sector. It was recovered from Ndamukunda on June 28.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson said that Ndamukunda was at the time taking to the abattoir.
"Neighbours of Mukarutesi, who were at the abattoir, identified the cow and called the police," CIP Kayigi said.
Mukarutesi had received the cow through one cow per poor family commonly known as Gir'inka.
“Residents called the police when they identified the cow, officers were dispatched and the suspect was arrested red-handed. The cow was handed over to the owner," CIP Kayigi said.
The spokesperson thanked the residents for the vigilance and promptness to call the police, which he attributed to neighborhood watch.
Mukarutesi thanked her neighbours and the Police for recovering her heifer.
“Thieves came at night few days ago and stole my cow and left its calf. I had no idea who stole it or where it was taken. On June 28, my neighbours and police called me telling me that my cow had been recovered; I was so happy," Mukarutesi said.
“I stopped taking milk when my cow was stole, I am now happy that I will taste milk again,” she added.
