Police in Huye district is holding a Somali national for allegedly attempting to bribe Police officer.
Jamal Osman Bobele 59, was arrested on September 17, after he tried to bribe an officer with Rwf150,000 to give him back a driving permit that was confiscated from from a fellow Somali native Ibrahim Abdullah 48.
At around 10 am on September 15, Bobele met the officer in his office and proposed to him the bribe.
The officer denied the bribe and informed Judicial Police Officer who arrested the culprit.
Ibrahim on September 3, in Rusatira sector, while driving Truck vehicle KBQ 355Z – ZD 7936 deviated from his lane, knocked a Toyota Corora RAC 758D driven by Christin Ruganda causing an accident that injured two people.
The suspect is held at Ngoma Police Station for further investigations.
Chief Supt. of Police (CSP), Hubert Gashagaza, the Spokesperson for the Southern region, said, “the officer acted professionally and this practice is in line with the force's culture regarding zero tolerance stance to corruption".
He appealed to drivers and the general public against such illegal tendencies saying corruption has negative impacts on economy.
He reminded the public that prevention and fight against all sorts of corruptions should not be left to Police and other concerned organs alone, instead everybody's responsibility to have a free-corrupt society
The patients are still admitted at University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK)
