Police in Huye District reached out to residents of Tumba Sector and sensitized them on their role in fighting and preventing crime, and to share information on any wrongdoing in their localities.
The District Police Commander of Huye, Supt. Justin Rukara, while addressing the residents in an outreach held in Musange Village of Mpare Cell, urged them not to allow drug dealers and thieves to use their communities as hideouts, stores or routes.
He observed that by reporting drug dealers they will be protecting their children from falling prey to drugs.
The youth are the majority drug dealers and abusers, leading some of them to drop out of schools, leaving their families and turning them into criminals like thieves.
“You are the first respondents to security of your communities because community policing empowers you to guard your families and neighbourhoods against anything illegal or criminal and work with security organs to have those wrongdoers apprehended,” the DPC told the residents.
He also appealed to have an active hand and support their community night patrols and work with local leaders in the implementation of security and development projects.
Supt. Rukara also urged them to break silence on gender related violations they experience, report abuses against children they witness and report people or leaders they suspect to be involved in corruption or other malpractices.
