Huye: Police, youth volunteers in community policing discuss strengthen partnership

The District Police Unit of Huye and members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing in the district held a meeting on Friday to discuss and streamline their joint partnership in crime prevention.

The meeting was chaired by the District Police Commander, Supt. Jean Marie Vianney Karegeya.

The DPC reminded them of their duty in supporting community development by helping the people, adding that ensuring safety is the first step to ensure that people engage in their development activities without fear but with hope.

He noted that by building or renovating houses for the poor, they supplement the ongoing human security agenda.

“You are the strength of the country, and that should challenge you to actively engage in community security and development activities to support national efforts,” Supt. Karegeya said.

He also outlined raising awareness in fighting drug related crimes, which are still rated high in the country, joining efforts to ensure that all children are in school as well as combating gender and child related crimes as some of the areas they should prioritize.

Emmanuel Musangamfura, the youth volunteers’ coordinator in Huye, pledged to ensure that they streamline their prioritise inline with the national security and development agenda.

He also said that they will put more efforts in bringing more youngsters to join the youth organization to effectively achieve its agenda.

Currently, there are about 2500 members of youth volunteers in community policing in Huye district.

The youth organization, which had about 20000 members countrywide, supports security and development programmes through awareness against crime, building houses for the poor and other human security activities.
