Huye: Police recovers stolen motorcycle, suspects arrested

Two people were arrested on Friday in Huye District in connection with stealing a motorcycle.

The suspects; Yves Ribanje and Romoard Mbuguje were arrested red-handed in Save Sector with the stolen motorcycle.

The motorcycle registration number RB 166Q, was stolen from one Maurice Munyaburanga, on June 05, in Rusatira Sector, Kiruhura Cell.

Huye District Police Commander (DPC), Superintendent of Police (SP) John Niyibizi said that Ribanje and Mbuguje were at the time of their arrest trying to sell the motorcycle.

“When Munyaburanga realized that his motorcycle was missing from where he had parked it, he immediately reported to the Police and the search started," SP Niyibizi explained.

He added: "We worked with taxi-moto operators in the search. Mbuguje told one of the motorcyclists that he had a motorcycle on sale in his house.

The would-be buyer, out of suspicion that the moto could be stolen, informed us."

Indeed, Police officers found the moto to be the same stolen from Munyaburanga, on June 05, in Rusatira Sector. The two suspected thieves were taken into custody.

The DPC thanked the responsiveness of the would-be buyer and appealed to the general public to always verify before buying something to avoid buying stolen items.

The motorcycle was handed over to the rightful owner, who thanked Rwanda National Police and those who played part in recovering his moto and arresting the suspects.

Theft, under article 166 of the penal code, attracts an imprisonment of between one and two years and a fine of Rwf1 million to Rwf2 million, a community service of not more than six months or one of the two penalties.
