A task team composed of Police, local authorities and other security organs in Huye District conducted a three-day safety inspection exercise in hospitality facilities including hospitals and hotels.
The exercise held between August 2nd and 4th aimed at ensuring that such facilities which also include public infrastructures that accommodate many people fulfil safety standards including firefighting gadgets to help in case of fire outbreak.
It was conducted in two hospitals, ten hotels and two government institutions.
The inspection team was headed by Boniface Niyibizi, who is in charge of good governance in the district.
The Huye District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP) Clément Mberamiheto said though most facilities have these equipment, some of them are old and need to be replaced while others don't much with the size of a building.
“Though a good number of the premises are equipped with fire extinguishers, some equipment are old. We advised them to install new ones," IP Mberamiheto said.
He said they also intend to provide firefighting skills to employees and owners of these facilities.
