Huye Community Policing Committees commit to crime prevention

Over 2000 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Huye district, on May 20, held a meeting to evaluate their performance in crime prevention and resolved to shift from fighting crimes to prevention.

Participants observed that they were focusing much on fighting crimes even when most crimes registered in the district are preventable.

They agreed to focus much on identifying individuals involved in illegal acts like theft, drug trafficking and abuse and families embroiled in domestic wrangles and the best to deal with the root cause of crimes.

“Fighting and apprehending lawbreakers are good but averting their criminal plans is the best way to preserve security and safety,” Jean Pierre Nsabimana, chairperson of National Itorero Commission (NIC) in Huye district, observed.

Inspector of Police Rukundo Mucyo thanked participants for organizing the meeting to evaluate themselves and set new tasks, adding that it’s one of the best ways to continue to execute their duties effectively.

“There is no development without security and ensuring security is not the responsibility of Police or other security organs only but all Rwandans. Two hands are always better than one,” IP Mucyo said.

He appealed to them to always sensitize and work with residents in their communities to identify drug dealers and other things that can cause insecurity.

He also urged them provide timely information which will also help to prevent crimes and apprehend criminals in time.
