Police in partnership with members of Rwanda Youths Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP), on Monday, built four houses for vulnerable families in the districts of Ruhango, Gakenke, Huye and Nyagatare.
The exercise lies in the Rwanda National Police (RNP) human security activities.
Theresa Nyirakabaya, one of the benefiaries from Muhororo Cell in Cyabingo Sector of Gakenke District, thanked Police and the youth for helping her to get a new shelter.
“I and my three children had constant fear living in this small and old house; we feared that one day it would collapse on us but this day has taken away my fear and brought safety and happiness in my house, thank you for thinking about us," a smiling I Nyirakabaya said.
Clementine Uwingeneye, another beneficiary from Kebero Cell, Ntongwe Sector in Ruhango, whose house was destroyed the heavy downpour about three months ago, pledged to take good care of the house.
"This house will remain a symbol to me and my children that we have a government that is really concerned about welfare of her people," said Uwingeneye.
In Gakenke, Senior Supt. Emmanuel Kayumba, the District Police Commander commended the continued efforts by members of the RYVCP and residents in general to support security and development activities.
He, however, called for more efforts among the youth and communities to fight crimes mainly trafficking, making and use of narcotic drugs as well as Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child abuse through sharing information.
