Housemaid arrested over theft

Police in the Southern Region have arrested Claudette Ayingeneye on suspicion of stealing US$3,000 and Rwf 150,000.

Police said the suspect was employed as a house help at Nelly Ishimwe's home in Nyamagabe district.

According to the police, the theft took place at Ishimwe's home in Mbazi sector, Ngara cell on October 18, and the suspect was arrested three days later.

Reacting to the arrest, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi confirmed the developments and said that the suspect was arrested after a complaint lodged by her employers.

The suspect is detained at Musange Police station as investigations continue to recover or the money.

At the time of arrest, the domestic worker was found with Rwf 97,000, but  admitted to have stolen Rwf 120,000.

“She denied stealing the alleged amount as claimed by her former employer but investigations shall continue to establish the truth around this matter” said IP Kayingi.

IP Kayigi appealed to employers to take extra-precaution by safeguarding their valued possession and always keep money in banks to minimize such incidents.
