Police in Burera district have arrested Jean Claude Bizimana, a house help, in connection with stealing Rwf1.3 million from his employer in Kicukiro district.

On July, 01, the suspect who is currently detained at Cyanika police station stole the money belonging to his employer, Innocent Kirenga and immediately fled to birthplace in Cyanika Sector of Burera district

According to the Northern Region Police Spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Gasasira confirmed the developments, saying that Kirenga reported the incident  to police  after realizing the money was missing from the car.

“We immediately started investigations that led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Bizimana, from his home in Cyanika Sector,” said IP Gasasira.

Findings of the preliminary investigations indicate that at the time of his arrest, the suspect (Bizimana) in collaboration with his wife Esperance Dusabimana had sent part of the money to one of their neighbours identified Emmanuel Ahishakiye through mobile money.

The regional spokesperson added that investigations are still underway to recover all the money while police is also processing the case file of the suspects involved that will later be forwarded to the prosecution

He implored the general public to desist from carrying large sums of money that may attract thieves and advised that people should always use electronic means to make financial transactions.

Article 300 of the Penal Code stipulates that anyone around guilt of theft without violence or threat shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of the penalties.
