Headteachers up against crimes

Headteachers of nursery, primary and secondary schools in Bugesera district have pledged to strengthen their efforts in the campaign against crimes in the district.

They made the commitment during a meeting held in Nyamata on June 6. The meeting was organised to learn about community policing, among others.

The heads of school observed that there is still a gap in educating and engaging their pupils and students in fighting and preventing crimes while at school and in their respective communities.

They resolved to establish ant-crime clubs in their respective schools as an effective driver in sensitizing students on dangers of crimes like drug abuse.

Assistant Inspector of Police Cyprien Uwitonze, the District Community Liaison Officer thanked them for collectively standing up to guide their students and the youth in general towards the right path.

Anti crime clubs, he noted, help to fight crimes but also instil discpline among the children.

“Ensuring sustainable security is not restricted to police only but also a responsibility of everyone including mentors like you,” AIP Uwitonze told school heads.

He urged them to put much emphsis in fighting and sensitizing the youth against drug abuse.

One of the headteachers, Cephas Onyango, thanked RNP for being a visionary and people’s force with its community policing policy adding that it gives hope and responsibility to the public to fight and prevent crime.

Teachers also pledged to use the acquired knowledge to establish active anti-crime clubs in their schools.

AIP Uwitonze also gave them various police toll free numbers used to report crimes.
