Handball: Police thrash UR-CASS

Police Handball Club thrashed University of Rwanda-College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) 44-11, in a game played this Saturday.

It was Day Six of the National Handball Championship as the record seven-time and defending champions maintained the unbeaten run with 18 maximum points.

Tuiyishimire Zachalie and Cpl. Mutuyinama Gilbert scored 13 and 5 goals for the enforcers, respectively.

The men’s championship features twelve clubs polled in two groups.

Police Handball Club features in the Western division alongside Munyove of Rusizi District, ES Gisenyi formerly College Inyemeramihigo, UR-CASS and ES Kigoma.

Police coach, Inspector of Police (IP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana said “the mission is to retain cup.”

“We still have many matches ahead, we hope to maintain the rhythm… to defend the cup means we have to win each and every game remaining,” IP Ntabanganyimana said.

Police won the national handball championship in three consecutive years in 2014, 2015 and 2016, before losing the title to APR in 2017.

They were crowned last year’s championship unbeaten. Police, last season, claimed four domestic titles including National Heroes Day tournament, the Genocide Memorial Tournament as well as the season-ending Carre d’As tournament.
