The first round of the National Handball Championship ended over the weekend, with Police maintaining its season unbeaten run to remain top of the table with 30 maximum points.
Alexis Nshimiyimana, Cpl. Gilbert Mutuyimana and Zacharie Tuyishime scored eight, six and five goals, respectively; to guide the record five times champions to an easy 31-15 win over ES Kigoma on Sunday.
The law enforcers, which is now eight points above the second-placed APR, which has two matches left to play, is looking to revive its glory and to add their sixth national championship trophy in the cabin.
Having won the 2014, 2015 and 2016 championships, Police lost the trophy to APR on the final day of the 2017 league, when the two locked horns.
Police Handball coach, Dismas Turatsinze, who has so far guided his team to win this year’s Heroes Day Cup, believes that his players have all it to see a successful season.
“We have new players, and almost all players are on good form. We do enough training and we have the support of the institution (Rwanda National Police), so our focus is to win each of the ten matches in the second round,” said Turatsinze.
Police scored 414 goals in the first round. Inyemeramihigo (22 points), GS Munyove (17 points) and College ADEGI (15 points) complete the top five list on the 11-team table.
