As part of Rwanda National Police’s ongoing anti-crime drive, the force reached out to over 400 students of GS Bisate in Musanze District and tutored them about the dangers of drug abuse and their role in fighting the vice.
While speaking to the students, the northern region police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, reminded the students to be policing agents either at school or in their communities by reporting drug dealers and users to police.
By reporting drug abusers, CIP Twizeyimana said, you will be equally helping them to be rehabilitated.
“You are the police as well; when you say no to any illegal dealing or report anything unlawful, you are promoting safety, security and stability and that way, you are equally playing a policing role and building your nation as required,” said CIP Twizeyimana.
The spokesperson told students that “Youth are the future of our nation and our country’s development will depend on how healthy you are….drug abuse among the youth is one of the factors that attribute to school drop-outs, while it partly threatens security.”
He detailed the health setbacks related to drug abuse saying that; “Drug abuse has an effect on someone’s state of mind. Anyone who consumes such substances can’t perform well in class or even succeed in life. You should ensure you protect your future.”
The school director Prosper Ndayishimye thanked the police for reaching out to the students and promised that the school administration will continuously remind students of the dangers of drug abuse.
