About 900 students of Groupe Scolaire Kimironko were on July 8 sensitised on dangers of drug abuse and introduced to community policing strategy as an effective way to prevent crimes.
Chief Inspector of Police Jean Claude Kabandana, while addressing the students at their campus, urged them to be active in their anti crime clubs and to share timely information with police as a path of crime prevention.
He appealed to them to work with security organs during their holidays by giving information on people involved in drug abuse and neighbouring families that could be having internal conflicts.
The school Headmistress thanked RNP for involving the youth in crime prevention and added that they school strives to instil in the discipline as a way of nurturing them into better citizens.
Community-based policing is one of the RNP strategies to involve the general public in ensuring own safety in their communities.
This effective approach has shown a positive impact in reducing neighborhood crime, enhanced a mutual relationship between the Police and the citizens.
This is because crimes can only be easily prevented if the community plays its role of sharing information with police in order to deter and detect crimes.
