Groupe Scolaire Karama in Nyarugenge District has rolled out programme to sensitize its students on the dangers of drug abuse and to fight, prevent and report crimes in their localities.
During an anti-crime awareness held at the school on February 20, the head-teacher, François Niyoyita urged the students to agents in this common course, in their communities.
He thanked Rwanda National Police for laying stringent initiatives to ensure safety in the country.
Students also vowed to give no room for drug abuse and other crimes by reporting those involved.
“After knowing the types of drugs and related effects, I will not help colleagues consuming it by advising them to abstain from it and report them, if I fail to heed to advice,” Clémentine Nyinawumuntu, a students, said.
Another student, Jean Claude Ntambara said; “We are going to strengthen the activities of our anti-crime to fight the vice in our school and in our communities”.
The campaign was also attended by parents.
Straton Kalisa Mugemangango, one of the parents requested that such educative sessions be held periodically and extended in all schools to groom students who are security conscious.
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Alexandre Minani, the District Community Liaison Officer also highlighted to the students various ill-effects associated with drug abuse like cannabis, illicit brew.
He told the students that drug abuse results into unwanted pregnancies, assault, theft, school drop-outs, among others.
