Police in Gisagara District are holding one François Nzeyimana, a resident of Cyumba in Muganza sector for allegedly assaulting and injuring another man.
Nzeyimana was taken on Monday night with the help of residents.
It is said that Nzeyimana ambushed and seriously assaulted one Mushokanyi Niyirora, 38.
The suspect, told the Police that he was revenging after the victim botched his theft plan, recently.
According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Southern region Police spokesperson, Nzeyimana recently attempted to steal goods in Badakele trading center but the planned theft was foiled after the victim informed security organs.
CIP Kayigi wondered why the suspect planned vengeance even for a wrong reason.
"In any case, vengeance is criminal and punishable by law," the spokesperson said.
Article 148 of the penal code states that "any person, who intentionally causes injuries to another, or beats or commits any serious acts of violence against another person shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of six months to two years and a fine of Rwf100, 000 to Rwf500, 000 or one of these penalties.
If the offender has acted with premeditation or ambush, under the same article, he/she shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of two to three years and a fine of Rwf100, 000 to Rwf500, 000.
Premeditation is the plan made to harm a person before such harm is carried out while ambush is defined in article 139, as waiting, for a certain period of time in one or various places, for an individual, either to kill him/ her, or to commit violence against him/her.
