The Mayor of Gisagara, Léandre Karekezi has challenged local leaders in the district to be catalysts in crime prevention and work with residents and security organs in identifying and responding to security challenges.
Karekezi made the call on December 29 during a meeting with local leaders held in Save sector. It was also attended by the District Police Commander, Supt. Callixte Kalisa.
“Crimes can be averted once all of us join efforts against them, but on the contrary, we spent much effort in dealing with effects and we have to change this mentality,” Karekezi said.
“You spend most of the time with communities, so you should get them up to speed to be crime preventers because if the community is insecure, it means as leaders, you will also realize your targets,” he added.
He appealed to them to tighten night patrols and build a bond with the public that facilitates crime prevention and easy information exchange with security organs.
Supt. Kalisa emphasized the need to be tough against drugs abuse which he said result into other crimes like domestic violence and theft.
