Gisagara Irondo personnel undertake public safety training

In a bid to ensure proper public safety management, Rwanda National Police has trained village security personnel commonly known as Irondo on how best to execute their responsibility while relating with residents on security matters.

The exercise is part of RNP process of shifting from fighting to prevention of crimes through its proactive concept of community policing, which binds the general public to engage in safety and security related activities.

The training focused mainly on fighting and preventing drug related crimes, human trafficking, and civic education as a catalyst to community policing.

Speaking during the training, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Innocent Nshimiyimana urged them to be exemplary in community policing and identifying likely threats to safety and security and share such information with security organs, which he said, will be a guiding tool to crime prevention.

He noted that patriotism and integrity are essential factors in effective policing.

AIP Nshimiyimana also dwelt much on enlightening them on the global threat of human trafficking and urged them to carry on the message and campaign in their respective communities for all Rwandans to be aware of the tricks traffickers use and the inhuman acts of sexual exploitation, hard labour and likely organ removal that awaits victims.

Irondo personnel in the district thanked the police and the leadership of their district for supporting them and giving them skills, which he said that they continue to guide them in their community policing and crime prevention activities.
