The joint Police and youth volunteers’ human security activities in Gicumbi District continued this Tuesday with focus on proper feeding.

Police officers and members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) constructed organic gardens for the disadvantaged families in Ndoha Village, Bwisige Cell in Bwisige Sector.

The exercise is part of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) proper feeding for good health campaign.

The 2018 Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Analysis report identifies Gicumbi as one of the districts where cases of poor feeding remain high despite the overall 8 percent reduction in the whole country. Other districts are Burera, Gisagara, Nyaruguru, Ngororero, Nyamasheke and Rutsiro.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said the joint human security activities are part of the RNP community development activities.

“Last week, these joint human security activities were conducted in Cyumba and Bwisige sectors where they laid bricks for the construction of houses for identified less privileged families in the two sectors, and leveled a football pitch to serve as a sports practicing ground for the young people. This week they are engaged in proper feeding and Gerayo Amahoro (arrive safely) campaign in schools,” said CIP Rugigana.

The road safety campaign was conducted in Ecole Primaire Gacurabwenge, Byumba and Inyange schools in Byumba sector, and Ecole Secondaire Kamutora in Rushake Sector.

The RYVCP formed in 2013 to volunteer in national security and development activities, has over 260, 000 members countrywide.
