Gicumbi district conducted a road safety awareness exercise on October 6 as it joined the Rwanda National Police in activities to prevent road accidents.
Aimé Bosenibamwe, the Governor of the Northern Province, speaking at the official launch of the exercise, commended Rwanda National Police for its initiatives to ensure road security and to ensure safety of people living in Rwanda.
He requested Gicumbi residents to work with police in ensuring safety in the country.
“Road transport is used by us all and it should also be everyone’s responsibility to ensure that accidents are prevented by reporting over speeding and reckless drivers,” Governor Bosenibamwe said.
He also urged resident to fight other crimes like drug trafficking and use and human trafficking among others.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations Dan Munyuza also thanked Gicumbi residents for their great role in crime prevention and urged them to strengthen cooperation in preventing accidents.
He cautioned road users especially drivers and motorcyclists against breaching traffic accidents causing accidents and loss of lives.
He further reminded them to be vigilant of people that promise them well-off offers abroad with intent to traffic them for exploitive and hard labour activities like prostitution.
