Rwanda National Police (RNP), in collaboration with local authorities and road safety stakeholders, on Thursday, November 27, extended the 'Turindane Tugereyo Amahoro' road safety campaign in Musanze District, calling on all road users to embrace shared responsibility in preventing road accidents.
Over 1,000 road users including drivers, moto-taxi operators, cyclists, passengers and pedestrians converged at Musanze bus station where road safety messages were delivered to influence safer practices on the roads.
The Governor of Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunde highlighted the importance of protecting lives and public infrastructure.

“The government is playing its part; roads are being constructed in line with the national vision. The remaining role lies with us—the road users—to utilize these roads in a way that promotes economic development and the well-being of our families,” he said.
He urged all road users to leave home with positive character and confident of returning safely. He also reminded drivers to conduct regular mechanical inspections to reduce harmful emissions to promote safer and more environmentally friendly travel.
Commissioner of Police (CP) George Rumanzi, the Commissioner for Operations and Public Order, emphasized that most accidents are avoidable, and called for maximum adherence to safety measures on the roads.

“Statistics show that nearly 90% of road accidents occur because of bad behavior or negligence by road users, and the Police cannot stop them alone; everyone has a role to play,” he noted.
He further urged drivers to avoid speeding, drunk driving, and dangerous overtaking, one of the causes of accidents.
CP Rumanzi also reminded pedestrians to always use designated crossings and pathways, and avoid distractions that sometimes cause accidents and loss of lives.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, the RNP spokesperson, said the Turindane Tugereyo Amahoro campaign builds on the broader Gerayo Amahoro programme, with a strong focus on collective responsibility and behavioral change.
As we head into the festive period, ACP Rutikanga urged the public to "prioritize safety and avoid turning celebrations into incidents, crimes, or tragedies.”
The campaign will continue to other parts of the country, reinforcing road safety awareness and encouraging responsible road use among all categories of road users.
