Félecien Nkikabahizi a resident of Muhororo Sector in Ngororero District, who used to maltreat his spouse, said Gender Based Violence (GBV) can be avoided but it takes a personal commitment in order to get free from the malpractice.
He shared his testimony during the Rwanda National Police Anti- GBV & child abuse campaign which took place in Ngororero District on September 10.
Nkikabahizi narrated that, he got married in 1991 but years later started to sleep with other women, a situation he lived in for so many years. “This annoyed my wife very much since most of the time, I would go missing only to look for women to sleep with,” he narrated.
Despite all the dark moments that most of the time provoked family conflicts, Nkikabahizi said that he was able to get out of the bondage and now live a happy life his wife Immacule Uwiteguye and their 9 children.
Today, I’ am completely a changed person. I pay health insurance cards and school fees for my children, five of them are now in secondary schools,” said Nkikabahizi calling residents that may still be under the same bondage to flee the vice and importantly partner security organs to further fight it through timely information sharing.
The couple still lives together in Mubuga Cell, Muhororo Sector in Ngororero District.
