Gatsibo: Security meeting calls for public vigilance

Authorities in Gatsibo District have averred that security in the district is largely intact but emphasised individual vigilance and collective response as a critical component to deal with crimes that still exist, and to sustain security in the upcoming festive season.

This was observed during the district security review meeting held on November 27, chaired by mayor Richard Gasana.

It was also attended by the 402 Brigade Commander, Col. Albert Rugambwa and Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police  (ACP) Benoit Sindayiheba Kayijuka as well as sector and cell executive secretaries.

Mayor Gasana urged grassroots leaders to be close and work with residents in strengthening community policing programmes like Irondo.

He warned against excessive alcohol consumption which lead to fightings and domestic conflicts, and called for strengthened efforts against illicit drugs.

ACP Kayijuka called for timely information sharing on anything that can affect the security and social wellbeing of the people, especially during the festivities.

The RPC asked local leaders to heighten community night patrols, monitor the conduct and discipline of the community security personnel, identify and report drug dealers as well as thieves.
