Gatsibo residents intercept trafficked illegal gin

Residents of Kigabiro cell, Remera  sector in Gatsibo district, on May 14 intercepted two motorcycles carrying cartons of an illicit gin called chief waragi.

The residents said they had information of two commercial motorcycle operators, who were using Kigabiro route to traffic the illegal gin into the country from the neighbouring Uganda through a porous border in the area.

On Wednesday evening, the responsible residents, after seeing the two men with luggage on their motorcycles, they stopped them, searched their luggage and found seven cartons of the illegal gin.

They seized the gin and apprehended one of the suspects identified as Jean Claude Ndimubakunzi and handed him to Police while the other suspect escaped.

They also confiscated the two motorcycles registration number RB 738W and RB 445L which they also handed to Police.

The suspect is currently detained at Kabarore Police station as investigations continue to apprehend the other suspect.

The Eastern region Police Spokesperson, Senior Supt. (SSP) Bénoit Nsengiyumva lauded the residents for the noble act which he said should be emulated by all Rwandans.

He reminded the public of the effects of drugs including assault, domestic violence and Gender-based violence.
