Gatsibo: Members of Community Policing Committes reminded to be active

Members of community policing committees in Gatsibo District have been ‎reminded to strengthen their role in fighting and preventing crimes, and work with police and the people to ensure safety in the communities.

The call was made by Inspector of Police (IP) Roger Rwakayiro, the District community Liaison Officer of Gatsibo while meeting with about 130 CPCs of Gasange Sector, held on November 27.

The meeting also attended by local leaders aimed at enhancing their partnership with Police in implementing community policing
initiatives.

IP Rwakayiro noted that drug abuse remains one of the challenges affecting security, which he said should be given emphasis to combat the vice.

“We find most crimes related to drug abuse, like domestic and gender based violence, assault and theft, so endevour to work with the residents to identify drug dealers and abusers, to facilitate easy
means to fight them,” IP Rwakayiro told the crime preventers.

He further urged them to involve the public to be an eye for the neighbours to identify and prevent anything that can impede on the safety and security of the community.

He also urged them to lead by example and refrain from anything that can tarnish the image of their activities.

Augustin Sekanyange, the head of CPCs in Rugarama Village said: "Such a meeting is important to exchange ideas and better practices in crime prevention, but we need to stay focused to our role and to lead by example.”
