Police in Gatsibo District is holding one Etienne Ndayisaba, 30, in connection with circulating fake currencies.
Ndayisaba was taken into custody on July 26, after he was found in possession of Rwf30, 000, all fake.
He was at the time trying to use the fake bills to buy a goat, Police said.
The suspect is currently detained at Gatsibo Police station.
“The suspect gave Rwf30, 000 to the resident who was selling a goat, but the would-be victim was vigilant to know that the bills were fake, and was quick to call the Police," CIP Kanamugire said.
He called for vigilance and timely information sharing on anyone they suspect to be involved in economic crimes.
According to 603 of the penal code, circulation of counterfeited bills, attracts a prison sentence ranging between one and three years.
