Gatsibo District Police Commander, Superintendent Gerald Habiyambere has praised the work done by area ‘Local Defence Forces’ in fighting and preventing crimes.
Superintendent Habiyambere was speaking on July 3 at a function to officially send off over 140 local defence personnel in the district.
The Local Defence Forces in the country has been dissolved and will be replaced by a new organ – District Administration Security Support Organ (DASSO).
A total of 2181 personnel, 229 of them females, who will be part of the 7420 strong administrative security organ, has already started a three-month training at the Police Training School in Gishari, Rwamagana district.
Superintendent Habiyambere observed that the outgoing local defence personnel have been vital in combating illegal acts like drug abuse and theft.
He said the great cause to ensure sustainable security is still on to deal with the few security challenges that still exist and appealed to them to remain patriotic Rwandans and cooperate with the community and security organs in crime prevention and development activities in general.
The district Mayor, Amboise Ruboneza said that ensuring security is the responsibility of every Rwandan and urged them to continue working with security organs to prevent anything that can affect their development activities.
Mr. Ruboneza pledged to help them form a cooperative society so as to easily access development services like funds to assist them in their small income generating projects.
