Residents of Gatsata sector in Gasabo district have been urged to strengthen their efforts to fight and prevent crimes including genocide ideology.
The Rwanda National Police and Military and Defence spokesperson, while meeting Gatsata residents on April 11, challenged them to be patriotic Rwandans while ensuring security and safety in their communities.
ACP Damas Gatare asked them to fight and report anything that might turn the country into the dark past like genocide ideology and partner with security organs to combat other security threats like drug abuse and domestic violence.
He also cautioned the on corrupt tendencies and added that the force established a toll-free line - 3511 - for anyone to report cases of bribery.
He appealed to them to be part of community policing strategies and embrace government programmes.
"The country's fast development comes with sophisticated and cross-border crimes, which requires collective efforts, both locally and internationally to contain threats," ACP Gatare said.
Brig. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita, the Military and Defence spokesperson, said the 1994 genocide against the Tusti which claimed over one million lives, was not accidental and that it was planned and implemented by the past bad leadership.
He said RDF is involved in various community development programmes like health and education and challenged them to partner with security organs to ensure sustainable security.
